Carlisle Ex-Services Men's Club

Club

The Club

Carlisle Ex-Services Men's Club was founded in 1921 by former servicemen who had fought in the Great War and were keen to retain and further the camaraderie which developed during that conflict. Although no longer run under British Legion rules, the Club still maintains a close relationship with that fine organisation.

The Club is owned by its members and managed by the elected Committee. It provides a comfortable and safe environment with refreshments and entertainment at minimum cost exclusively for members and their bona-fide guests.

Membership is only £10 p.a. and is open to both men and women. Currently we have almost three thousand members.

Sports & Social

Snooker

We have a very active sports section in the Club with teams representing us in Snooker, Billiards, Pool, Darts, Table Bowls, Whist and Football. On the social side, cash bingo takes place in the Concert Room each Friday and concerts are held on Saturday and Sunday evenings featuring top class cabaret artists and bands. Various draws are held each weekend including the Tote Double with a top prize of £600, the Treasure Chest (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) which offers over £2000. We have a Members’ Draw at Christmas with hundreds of prizes and six weeks of Bottle Bingo in the lead up to the festive season.

The Committee

The Committee manages the Club on behalf of its members. It consists of the President, two Vice-Presidents, the Treasurer (the Officers) and six Committee. A ballot takes place each year in March to elect the Committee and when elected, Officers serve for three years and Committee for two years. Other Officers are the Secretary and Assistant Secretary who are appointed (employed) and as such have no vote at Committee meetings.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held in March each year and members are encouraged to attend. At the AGM the Annual Accounts are presented, together with the Committee report for the year, and scrutineers are appointed for the Committee elections.
